August 30, 2023 Amid an unparalleled year of disasters, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has unveiled a $3 billion initiative to bolster community resilience against extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change. These funds, derived from last year’s bipartisan infrastructure law, are announced as FEMA’s disaster-relief funds are on the brink of exhaustion and Florida faces an imminent hurricane threat. FEMA Administrator, Deanne Criswell, emphasized that every dollar invested in resilience saves six dollars in subsequent response and recovery costs.
